This accessory expands the capability of conventional Clamcleat® rope cleats. The Award Winning Keeper has been designed to overcome the problem of lines being cleated accidentally as well as improving performance by holding lightly-loaded lines in the jaws of a cleat when mounted upside down.
Keepers keep a rope in the cleat, or keep it out of the cleat.
CL814 Keeper can be fited with these cleats:- CL203; CL203W/S1; CL211 Mk1; CL217 Mk1; CL218 Mk1; CL236.
CL814 Keepers are used with CL236AN to tension sun sails and sun shades. The dark colours look good on carbon fibre tubes.
It can also be used with CL816 Cage, to help guide the rope.
Using a CL818 Tapered Pad, to mount at an angle, can aid rope alignment.
When using a cleat fitted with a Keeper, the operation and performance is completely transformed. The lead-in makes cleating a line easier and there is a satisfying and positive click as the line is released or cleated. These benefits mean that Clamcleat® rope cleats can now be used on control lines that are adjusted frequently.
When a halyard or control line is released from a cleat fitted with a Keeper, the Keeper will stop it falling back into the cleat and re-cleating, for example when dropping a spinnaker during a race or the mainsail when unrigging ashore.
The innovative Keepers are patented and have won 2 awards. At the At the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam in November 2005, we were the joint winners in the Deck equipment, sails and rigging category. The Jury said "The Keeper from Clamcleats Ltd of the United Kingdom brilliantly reinvents the Clamcleat, to prevent unwanted capture of the rope and also to prevent accidental release."
The Keeper also won an award at the 2005 Hamburg Boat Show. Segeln magazine readers voted the Keeper 4th place in their Award 2005 for innovative products. This was the only piece of deck hardware to win an award.
CL833CKC is the assembly of CL211 Mk1 cleat, CL814 Keeper and CL817 Cage.
CL815 is a smaller version, for use with CL211 Mk2 cleats.
Q: Does Clamcleat® make accessories for the cleats?
Ans: Clamcleat® make a range of accessories for 3 sizes of fairlead cleat, CL268 and Mk2 range and the Mk1 range of cleats. The accessories are a tapered pad, Keeper (keeps the rope either in or out of the cleat) and the Cage (allows the rope to enter the cleat even if the lead angle is poor)
Q: What is a Clamcleat® keeper?
Ans: Clamcleat® make different sizes of keeper, CL815 for Mk2 cleats and CL814 for Mk1 cleats. The keeper, when the rope is outside stops the rope going into the cleat accidentally and when the rope is inside the cleat ensures the rope stays engaged even if the cleat is upside down. Simply pull the rope down to engage and up to release from the keeper.
Q: Is there any maintenance required to a cleat to keep it performing well?
Ans: We would recommend flushing the with fresh water as often are you can.
