Clamcleat-CL814/S1

A special version of the CL814 Keeper. Extends the use of CL230 for through-deck applications. This accessory expands the capability of conventional Clamcleat® rope cleats. The Award Winning Keeper has been designed to overcome the problem of lines being cleated accidentally as well as improving performance by holding lightly-loaded lines in the jaws of a cleat when mounted upside down.

Keepers keep a rope in the cleat, or keep it out of the cleat.  The CL814/S1 has been designed for the nylon CL203W/S2, aluminium CL230 & CL230AN cleats.  It also fits the CL816/S1 Cage.

When using a cleat fitted with a Keeper, the operation and performance is completely transformed. The lead-in makes cleating a line easier and there is a satisfying and positive click as the line is released or cleated.  These benefits mean that Clamcleat® rope cleats can now be used on control lines that are adjusted frequently. When a control line is released from a cleat fitted with a Keeper, the Keeper will stop it falling back into the cleat and re-cleating

The innovative Keepers are patented and have won 2 awards. At the At the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam in November 2005, we were the joint winners in the Deck equipment, sails and rigging category. The Jury said "The Keeper from Clamcleats Ltd of the United Kingdom brilliantly reinvents the Clamcleat, to prevent unwanted capture of the rope and also to prevent accidental release." The Keeper also won an award at the 2005 Hamburg Boat Show. Segeln magazine readers voted the Keeper 4th place in their Award 2005 for innovative products. This was the only piece of deck hardware to win an award.

Q: Does Clamcleat® make accessories for the cleats?

Ans: Clamcleat® make a range of accessories for 3 sizes of fairlead cleat, CL268 and Mk2 range and the Mk1 range of cleats. The accessories are a tapered pad, Keeper (keeps the rope either in or out of the cleat) and the Cage (allows the rope to enter the cleat even if the lead angle is poor)

Q: What is a  Clamcleat® keeper?

Ans: Clamcleat® make different sizes of keeper, CL815 for Mk2 cleats and CL814 for Mk1 cleats. The keeper, when the rope is outside stops the rope going into the cleat accidentally and when the rope is inside the cleat ensures the rope stays engaged even if the cleat is upside down. Simply pull the rope down to engage and up to release from the keeper.

Q: Why does Clamcleat® not publish safe working loads (SWL) or break loads for its cleats?

Ans: The quality, type and style of the rope or cord plays a major role in the performance of the cleat. Normally the better the quality of the rope the greater holding power, also some cleats are designed to slip once they exceed the desired holding load as a safety feature including securing fabrics such as sunshades or covers.

Q: Do you get a better performance with an Aluminum cleat?

Ans: Aluminum cleats do not improve the performance of the cleat, but they can achieve higher holding loads and they also might improve the lifespan of the cleat especially if the rope will be in contact with the teeth whilst the rope is being pulled through during adjustment.
