CL816/S1 Cage is used with CL814/S1 and CL230 or CL203W/S2 to allow a rope to come up from below a surface.
The Cage is an accessory that allows ropes to be cleated and uncleated at an angle of up to 70 degrees, rather than only in line with the cleat. Adding Cages to cleats fitted with Keepers will allow the helmsman or crew to adjust a control line from different positions quickly, easily, positively and without fear of accidental cleating.
Simply pull the rope back at an angle and it is guided down into the teeth, as shown in the sketches below. The stainless steel rear fairlead provides a long life under racing conditions.
This is the link to CL814/S1 Keeper.
The aluminium CL230 has a bottom roller to guide the rope from underneath and into the cleat teeth.
The CL203/S2 is a nylon cleat with bottom roller, for lower load applications.
If the rope will be in-line with the cleat, look at CL833CKC.
If you want a Cage for in-line rope entry, see CL816.
Q: Does Clamcleat® make accessories for the cleats?
Ans: Clamcleat® make a range of accessories for 3 sizes of fairlead cleat, CL268 and Mk2 range and the Mk1 range of cleats. The accessories are a tapered pad, Keeper (keeps the rope either in or out of the cleat) and the Cage (allows the rope to enter the cleat even if the lead angle is poor)
Q: What is a Clamcleat® keeper?
Ans: Clamcleat® make different sizes of keeper, CL815 for Mk2 cleats and CL814 for Mk1 cleats. The keeper, when the rope is outside stops the rope going into the cleat accidentally and when the rope is inside the cleat ensures the rope stays engaged even if the cleat is upside down. Simply pull the rope down to engage and up to release from the keeper.
Q: What is a Clamcleat® cage?
Ans: Clamcleat® make different sizes of cages, CL817 for Mk2 cleats and CL816 for Mk1 cleats. The cage allows the rope to enter the cleat automatically even if the lead into the cleat is not parallel.
Q: Is there any maintenance required to a cleat to keep it performing well?
Ans: We would recommend flushing the with fresh water as often are you can.
