The Clamcleat® CL223 Loop cleat is a nylon cleat for tensioning lines. Rigged onto a rope, the CL223 is quick to tension, easy to adjust and release.

We have recently re-designed the CL223. The new shape is: - Slightly shorter. Slightly higher. - No heavier. - More generous opening at the top of the teeth, so it is easier for the rope to go into the teeth. - Strength of critical sections has been maintained or increased. - All changes have been functionally and structurally tested. - Deeper area for knot to disappear under the cleat. - Hole sizes improved for easier rope threading. - Sharp edges around front hole eliminated. - Overall a more comfortable shape in your hand.

Use to tension lines on badminton, volleyball; sports nets; covers; tents & canvas structures; radio masts or boat covers. It can be used for suspending curtains and tensioning banners in a theatre. The White CL223W is ideal for holding small boat fenders.

Made from outdoor grade nylon. Completely corrosion proof. Availabe in 2 standard colours: CL223 is Black. CL223W is White. Packaged with instructions. Also available in bulk for manufacturers.

For the same sizes of rope, see CL276, which is rigged in a different way.
CL826-72 holds 4-6mm ropes and has a closed fairlead.
For larger ropes, look at the CL234
For high loads, consider the aluminium CL253.

Q: What size of rope should I use on my CL223 cleat?

Ans: The size of rope used on the CL223 is from 3 to 6mm (1/8 – ¼”).

Q: What is a loop cleat?

Ans: Clamcleat® make a 2 different sizes of loop cleat, CL223 for ropes from 3-6mm (1/8 – ¼”) and CL234 for ropes from 6-11mm (1/4 – 7/16”) the rope if fixed to the cleat and a loop is created in from the rope coming back through the teeth which allows you to adjust the size of the loop. Ideal for adjusting fender height.

Q: What colours are the CL223 available in?

Ans: The CL233 cleat is available in black CL223 and white CL223W.

Q: Why does Clamcleat® not publish safe working loads (SWL) or break loads for its cleats?

Ans: The quality, type and style of the rope or cord plays a major role in the performance of the cleat. Normally the better the quality of the rope the greater holding power, also some cleats are designed to slip once they exceed the desired holding load as a safety feature including securing fabrics such as sunshades or covers.

Q: How long should a Nylon cleat last?

Ans: This really depends on the usage, the quality and age of the rope used etc. so is very difficult to gauge. The ultraviolet rays will discolor the cleats over time and in very sunny climates may affect the life of the cleat. In extreme climates the life expectancy should be 10 -15 years depending on usage and in more moderate climate 20 + years

Q: What type of rope or cord will give the best performance on my cleats?

Ans: In our experience a braided good quality rope gives you the best holding performance

Q: Is there any maintenance required to a cleat to keep it performing well?

Ans: We would recommend flushing the with fresh water as often are you can
