At METS, the Marine Equipment Trade Show, in Amsterdam in November, 2005, the Keeper joint winner of the deck equipment, sails and rigging category of the DAME design awards. At the Hamburg Boat Show, in a vote by readers of the German sailing magazine Segeln for its Award 2005 for innovative products, the Keeper was the only piece of deck hardware to win an award.
Judges of the DAME awards said: “The Keeper from Clamcleats Limited of the United Kingdom brilliantly reinvents the Clamcleat, to prevent unwanted capture of the rope and also to prevent accidental release.”
In the Segeln magazine poll, readers recognised that the Keeper provided a simple solution to a problem, is excellent value for money and very easy to use.
The Keeper was designed and developed in-house using the latest computer-aided design and modelling techniques. A patent application has been filed.
The Keeper was designed to overcome the problem of lines being cleated accidentally as well as improving performance by holding lightly-loaded lines in the jaws of the cleat. It completely transforms the operation and performance of a cleat. When a halyard or control line is released from a cleat fitted with a Keeper, the Keeper will stop it falling back into the cleat and re-cleating. There is a satisfying and positive click as the line is cleated or released when using a cleat fitted with a Keeper. The design includes a lead-in which makes cleating a line easier. These benefits mean that Clamcleat® rope cleats can now be used on control lines that are adjusted frequently
