Clamcleat® CL230 roller cleat used on Pyranha RIP-R Evo 2 for exciting new discipline "Kayak Cross" in the 2024 Olympics

Kayak Cross is a dynamic sport where the paddler’s connection to and therefore control of the boat is key to their success – with forces acting at various angles on the paddler during their run, and with them pushing hard on the kayak’s footrest to convert the power from each paddle stroke into acceleration of the boat. The backrest is a critical component which helps the paddler remain planted in the kayak’s seat and well connected to the rest of the outfitting system, even when launching off the 4m high ramp, or upside down in the roll zone. It is vitally important, therefore, that the paddler can easily adjust the backrest to their preference whilst sat in the kayak, and that this adjustment is reliably locked in for the whole race, without excessive weight being added to the boat as a result.
Mathew Wilkinson, Team manager at Pyranha said "After pouring thousands of hours into designing, testing, and developing the hull of our Kayak Cross specific design, the Pyranha Rip-R Evo 2, it was important to us that the fittings were made with the same attention to detail - Clamcleat’s CL230 Racing Junior MK1 cleat is perfectly suited to the Pyranha Rip-R Evo 2’s backrest system, adding minimal weight, yet simply and solidly gripping the backrest adjustment rope, even when subjected to the intense force exerted by an Olympic athlete.”
