Many sailors have been fastening the standing end of control lines to the fairlead on products such as the Clamcleat® CL211 Mk2 Racing Junior, to achieve a 2:1 advantage. Although this was effective, it was not as neat nor efficient as it could be. To provide the optimum solution to this problem, Clamcleats Limited has introduced two new cleats, with the latest low profile, the CL211 Mk2/S2 and the CL704.
Both these cleats have a becket which provides a neat and efficient way to fix the end of a control line as well as saving boatbuilders and mastmakers time and money as extra loops and fastenings for the standing end of control lines are not needed. Both cleats are available in either silver or dark grey hard anodised finish.
The CL704 has the same hole centres as the CL211Mk1 and the CL211 Mk2/S2 has the same as the CL211Mk2 which means that either cleat can be retro-fitted to existing rigs to provide 2:1 systems. Both cleats have contoured bases so they can be mounted on either flat or curved surfaces, and will hold ropes from 3mm to 6mm diameter.
The CL211 Mk2/S2 is, for example, used by a number of Optimist mast manufacturers for cleating the sprit tensioner. The cleat can also be used for deck-level mast bend control on 470 dinghies.
